WORLD PREMIERE OF “FIVE STAR DAY” TO KICK OFF 11th ANNUAL NEWPORT BEACH FILM FESTIVAL

Newport Beach, CA (April 1, 2010) – The World Premiere of FIVE STAR DAY will open the
2010 Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Edwards Big
Newport (300 Newport Center Drive). The 11th edition of the Festival will run from April 22 –
29, 2010.
FIVE STAR DAY stars Cam Gigandet (Twilight) as Jake Gibson, whose horoscope forecasts a
perfect ‘Five Star Day’ the morning of his birthday. Little does he realize that what’s foretold to
be a flawless ‘Five Star Day,’ unfolds to be far less than stellar when Jake’s world is turned
upside down when all that could go wrong, does. Determined that astrology has no legitimacy,
Jake embarks on a journey to test the theory of astrology by finding three people born the same
time and place as himself. Jake’s pursuit in finding his three astrological matches not only will
test his convictions, but validate how life’s unexpected twists of fate can deliver much more than
anticipated. What Jake learns along the way is an important lesson about life, love, fate and
destiny that will unexpectedly change his life forever. FIVE STAR DAY also stars Jena Malone
(Saved!, The Soloist, Donnie Darko).
The film marks the feature directorial debut for Orange County native Danny Buday, who is also
the film’s producer and screenwriter. FIVE STAR DAY is the feature debut for editor Curtis Pierce
and cinematographer Jason Oldak. Orange County filmmakers on the film include executive
producer Mike Robertson and production designer Megan Hutchinson. For more information, log

“All of us who worked on FIVE STAR DAY are deeply honored to be selected by the Newport
Beach Film Festival and are still in shock to be opening the Festival,” said Mike Robertson,
executive producer and producer of FIVE STAR DAY. “Having our World Premiere in our
backyard was something we couldn’t have even dreamed of.”
FIVE STAR DAY will be preceded by THE COW WHO WANTED TO BE A HAMBURGER, a
new short film from renowned animator Bill Plympton. The film is a children's fable about the
power of advertising, the meaning of life and ultimately the test of a mother's love.
Cast and crew from FIVE STAR DAY are scheduled to appear at the red carpet and screening.
Press check in will be from 5:30 – 6:30pm and red carpet arrivals will be held from 6:30 –
