Big Bad 40 aka 40 Glocc Signs Ras Kass to Zoo Life

West Coast Rappers Begin To Unite
Big Bad 40 aka 40 Glocc Signs Ras Kass to Zoo Life

Rapper Hushes KD Albert Rumors and Heads to Canada

LOS ANGELES, CA (Oct. 13, 2010) Just in case your search engines on Google or YouTube have failed you, California Rapper, Big Bad 40 aka 40 Glocc is staying busy and not just in the streets but primarily in the studio and interestingly enough, office buildings. As President of his own record label Zoo Life residing under the Fontana/Universal umbrella, the entrepreneur has shifted gears quite a bit. “When you deal with corporate America , no one has time for excuses and you are held accountable for every little thing, that’s gangsta to me. It’s a say what you mean and mean what you say kind of business. Me building my own label has forced me to move forward in some areas that I can honestly say work for my own benefit. I’m about getting this money every way possible, feel me,” says 40 Glocc.

This week, one of the West Coast most prized rap possessions, Ras Kass signed with the Zoo Life imprint. Two weeks ago, Complex magazine reported Ice Cube’s Top 10 West Coast MC’s and sure enough, new Zoo Life member, Ras Kass was in the line up. “I’ve always been a fan of Ras Kass plus he’s my homey. With me gaining the opportunity to have a real label with distribution I automatically want artists with good music to come eat with me,” says 40 Glocc.

This summer, when MTV Jams began playing 40 Glocc’s “Damn” video featuring the Prince of VH1, Ray J, radio stations across the country immediately followed.  Next, Grammy Winning rapper Twista and the King of Memphis, Yo Gotti came together on the remix of “Damn” which instantly expanded the single throughout the Midwest and down South. The trio is scheduled to shoot a remix video this month.

Staying busy in the studio and in front of the cameras, Big Bad completed filming with Snoop Dogg, E-40, Too Short and Xzibit for the “Welcome 2 California” video.  Even Hollywood ’s club scene saw more of the infamous rapper with a consistent beauty on his arm, actress KD Albert. Although rumors intimately linked the two, the truth is they have been in the studio working on her new found love for music.  Testing the waters, Zoo Life recently released a buzz record entitled “You Know What It Is” featuring KD Albert.

In a non-stop effort to musically put Zoo Life on the map, this month you can find the Pres here:
October 13, 2010           Mojo’s              Whistler, Canada
October 14, 2010           Bar None          Vancover , Canada
October 15, 2010           Empire              Edmonton , Canada

“I’m not hard to find, if you are looking for me I’m on www.twitter.com/40glocc I make it real easy and when you hit me, I’ll find you,” winks Big Bad 40.

Nicaraguan singer songwriter PERROZOMPOPO introduces powerful politically charged videos

Me Hubiera Gustado the streets, the people, the country, government.

Ríos de Gentethe search of a better future by crossing borders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7_00Sa9Mcw

Vesper Public Relations. October 7, 2010. Latin GRAMMY nominee Perrozompopo shares two powerful politically charged videos voicing his views on the current social political environment that his country Nicaragua & the rest of Latin America is facing every day.

It is clear that Perrozompopo’s road to success is led by the hand of his Latin GRAMMY nomination, for his album “Canciones Populares Contestatarias” (CPC).

Following are the lyrics for these amazing videos ‘Me Hubiera Gustado’ and ‘Ríos de Gente’, videos recorded in the streets of Nicaragua.

‘Me Hubiera Gustado’
This video demonstrates that he is against injustice and the easy money that gets this situation in Nicaragua worst, creating more child abuse, more immigration, less education, more poverty, and more agricultural exploitation that is why Perrozompopo protests “Don’t lose sight of this massive destruction…” Director Marvin Murillo. Photography Gustavo Brenes. Production Karina Avellán and Martha Clarissa Hernández.

(Lyrics)
‘Me hubiera Gustado’
Me hubiera gustado quedarme chavalo,

Me hubiera gustado quedarme chavalo,

This video is about people in pursuit of a better life by leaving their beloved country. Carrying a deep pain in their hearts for those who leave and those who stay, watching their loved ones march away. Perrozompopo says that he was immigrant and his mother too crossing rivers for a better future leaving kisses behind doors. The video portrays picture frames placed on the outside walls of homes as a symbol of the remembrance of the loved ones that left crossing borders. Director Marvin Murillo. Photography Gustavo Brenes. Production Karina Avellán and Martha Clarissa Hernández.

(Lyrics)

MUN2 ANNOUNCES U.S. PREMIERE OF MEXICO’S HIT SERIES “SOY TU FAN"

Acclaimed Series is Produced by International Stars Diego Luna and Gael Garcia and will be Subtitled in English

Visit www.holamun2.com/fan to View First Episode

Universal CityOctober 7, 2010– mun2 announces US television premiere of Mexico’s most buzzed about series, “Soy Tu Fan” (I’m Your Fan).  The hour-long romantic comedy premieres Sunday October 17 at 10pm ET/PT and airs Sundays at 10pm ET/PT, exclusively on mun2 and subtitled in English.

A passion project for Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, the acclaimed Mexican stars of Oscar-nominated “Y Tu Mama Tambien” and “Rudo y Cursi,” “Soy Tu Fan” introduces viewers to a group of young friends searching for love, sex and themselves in Mexico City.  Famed actress Ana Claudia Talancon (Tear this Heart Out) also serves as Producer and stars in the lead role as the romantically-challenged Charly.

“’Soy Tu Fan’ offers a unique, edgy take on relationships, sex and every-day life which fits perfectly with mun2’s uniquely American programming,” says Diana Mogollon, General Manager for mun2.  “The series tells a relatable, entertaining and surprising story that viewers will identify with immediately.”

Charly – young, attractive and freshly dumped by her cheating boyfriend, is on the rebound.  Her best friends are busy trying to find the perfect relationship, split between a fear of commitment and finding the perfect man.  They aren’t helping.   Unaware of her beauty, depressed by the break-up, and afraid of never finding true love, Charly finds herself moping around her apartment alongside her dog, drinking scotch with her grandma, and venting out to her therapist week after week.  Charly’s swinging soap star brother Diego (Diego Garcia) has problems of his own, namely juggling several groupies and keeping them a secret from his co-star and girlfriend.

"The series is another opportunity to further create a unique platform for US Latinos, mun2 is all about celebrating the two worlds we live in day in and day out,” says Flavio Morales, SVP Programming and Production for mun2.  “This show further demonstrates that whether original or acquired, it can live as a uniquely American experience, para todos."

In the first episode, Charly meets her biggest annoyance, Nicolas, who has become her biggest fan.  He’s not exactly her idea of prince charming – “I hate the way he dances, the way he talks, his shoes!” she admits to her therapist.  She isn’t sure he’s what she wants.  But he may just be what she needs.

Each episode takes viewers through a scenic, colorful tour of Mexico City.  From the trendiest cafés and hottest night clubs to-date, to the cities oldest, most-visited landmarks and avenues, “Soy Tu Fan” showcases Mexico City as one of the series’ rich and vibrant characters.

mun2 will champion the US premiere of the romantic comedy by including in-show mentions, and episodic updates of the series throughout its original properties, including “18 and Over,” “The mun2 Shuffle” and “Reventon Countdown.”  mun2 resident hosts Yarel Ramos, Guadalupe Venegas  and Pico will connect with “Soy Tu Fan” viewers through their respective shows, unveil sneak peeks of upcoming episodes, share their exciting thoughts throughout the season, and invite viewers to share their favorite “Soy Tu Fan” moments via holamun2.com/fan.

“Soy Tu Fan” premiered in Mexico April 2010 andis among Canal 11's highest rated shows in primetime, with 221,000 Total Persons during its summer run, and the #1 show for the channel across all of its 10pm periods in prime-time.  Source: Ibope Mex, P4+ Canal 11 DF; Soy tu Fan (M-F 7p-11p) 4/26/10-7/25/10.

International Television and Film Star Lance Reddick Releases Debut Jazz CD "Contemplations & Remembrances"

Available Worldwide October 19

(Los Angeles, CA - October 4, 2010) -International television and film star, Lance Reddick releases his debut jazz CD, Contemplations & Remembrances, available worldwide October 19 at all online retail outlets. Advance digital purchase of the music is now available on Amazon.com. Singer, songwriter and composer, Reddick is best known as a critically-acclaimed actor in laudatory roles on television series such as THE WIRE, FRINGE, LOST, CSI MIAMI, LAW & ORDER: SVU, OZ and THE CORNER and movies including THE SIEGE, I DREAMED OF AFRICA, BROTHER TO BROTHER, TENNESSEE and JONAH HEX.

Reddick, a Yale Drama School alum, who got his artistic start in music, wants his devotees to see the flip side of his on-camera visage. His debut CD reflects his myriad musical loves and personal wanderings. The nine tracks on Contemplations & Remembrances are entirely written and composed by Reddick, who produced the CD on his independent label, Christai Productions. The Baltimore native displays his avid attention to various musical genres and the influences of his divergent list of personal faves. They include everyone from Stephen Sondheim to Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock to Sting. "When I'm writing I'm trying to get the experiences of human beings deeply into my songs," Reddick says. "And I'm looking to emulate my own idols in the music. I labored over every bit of this."

Classically trained at the Eastman School of Music in piano and composition, he has been cultivating his chops since his days as a choirboy at Grace & St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Baltimore City and as a pupil at Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Conservatory, where he enrolled while still a student at the Quakers Friends School in his hometown. Reddick's mother taught instrumental music for 40 years; his father was a high school English and social studies teacher before earning a law degree and becoming a public defender. From those familial, cultural and musical roots, Reddick has fashioned his own hybrid form of music, a stylized brand of jazz that is rife with ordinary stories and social commentary.

With Contemplations & Remembrances, Reddick says he aims for music-loving listeners of every stripe. He wants them to hear some note, some phrase, some arc of the brass section or tinkling of the piano that seems to be reaching just for them. "A lot of this music is autobiographical, some of it's completely fantastical," Reddick adds.

As a collection, the songs reflect the images, ideas and ideals that leave Reddick awestruck. "I have such a love of wisdom that, when I first left for college, I wanted to be a philosopher. That desire has never left-I just didn't think I would make a living at it," Reddick says. "For me, the beauty in all of this lay in seeing our human commonality. In every song, I was angling to find the human story, the shared human experience."

Tarzan Meets Technology at the Academy

http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/email/images/header_ampas.gif
Beverly Hills, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will screen “Tarzan and His Mate” (1934) and “Tarzan Finds a Son!” (1939), and explore the secrets behind the making of these two jungle classics on Saturday, October 16, and Sunday, October 24, respectively, at the Academy’s Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood. Presented by the Academy’s Science and Technology Council, “Me Tarzan, You Technology: The Magic of Tarzan in the Movies” will be hosted by Oscar®-winning visual effects supervisor and Academy governor Craig Barron, with special guest Oscar-winning sound designer Ben Burtt. Both programs will begin at 7 p.m.
The evenings will include rare, behind-the-scenes photos revealing how various technologies were used in making the films. The program will also examine the MGM rear-projection technique used to create the illusion of a charging rhino.
Tarzan and His Mate” is one of the rare action films to which no music score was added; instead, the filmmakers relied on the power of sound effects alone to magnify the drama. Burtt will perform live audio demonstrations to illustrate why this was successful, and he will reveal the secret of how the classic Tarzan yell, as well as other quintessential Tarzan sounds were created.
In “Tarzan and His Mate,” which was directed by Cedric Gibbons, Jane’s (Maureen O’Sullivan) former love Harry Holt (Neil Hamilton) returns to the jungle bearing expensive gifts in an effort to convince her to return to civilization. Holt and his business partner embark on an ivory expedition to the Elephant’s Graveyard, and Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) does everything in his power to stop them. Because censors found the aquatic interlude in the film too racy, this version of “Tarzan and His Mate” was released only briefly and in just a few theaters.
In “Tarzan Finds a Son!,” which was directed by Richard Thorpe, a plane flying to Cape Town crashes over the jungle and the only survivor – a baby boy – is rescued by Tarzan’s chimpanzee Cheeta. Tarzan and Jane adopt “Boy” (John Sheffield) and raise him as their own, but the new family is threatened when a search party arrives five years later looking for the child, who happens to be the heir to a fortune worth millions.
In conjunction with the two screenings, the Academy will present “Tarzan’s Technology Treasures,” a week-long display highlighting the studio production methods used in the MGM “Tarzan” films. Materials that will be on view include a Mitchell camera of the type used to film several “Tarzan” films, and two rare, original matte paintings on loan from the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The paintings, which helped construct the Elephant’s Graveyard scene in “Tarzan and His Mate,” illustrate the tradition of realistic painting applied to imaginary, exotic locations. Original multimedia content by Barron and Burtt will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how the films’ various jungle illusions were created.
“Tarzan’s Technology Treasures,” on display in the Linwood Dunn Theater foyer, will be available for viewing the weekends of October 16–17 and October 23–24 from noon to 6 p.m., and immediately prior to and following the screening programs on the 16th and 24th. The public may also view the display Tuesday through Friday, October 19–22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to view the display is free.
Tickets for each of the “Me Tarzan, You Technology: The Magic of Tarzan in the Movies” events are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets are available for purchase by mail, at the Academy box office (8949 Wilshire Boulevard, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or online at www.oscars.org. Doors open at 6 p.m. All seating is unreserved.
The Linwood Dunn Theater is located at 1313 Vine Street in Hollywood. ;For more information call (310) 247-3600 or visit www.oscars.org.

Admission to all screenings in the series is free.
Directed and produced by Mai Iskander, “Garbage Dreams” follows three teenage boys born into the trash trade in one of the world’s largest garbage villages, located in Cairo. When they are suddenly faced with the globalization of their trade, each boy is forced to make choices that will impact his future and their community’s survival.
Filmed in war-torn Liberia and Congo, “Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders” follows four volunteer doctors as they confront the limits of humanitarian idealism in extreme conditions. With a synonymous history of life changing events, illegal rumors, extravagant public ordeals and  an all-star bay of even more reputable features including Gucci Mane, Red CafeMessy MarvSelauBig Rich certifies the album title Controversy to fit The HoodStarz like a glove.
Known for their party-popping high energy songs throughout the western region, The HoodStarz (aka Dem HoodStarz) have decided to expand their bandwidth and share their feel good music worldwide. In 2005, the group released their debut  Hood Reality. From that album, they released a song called “Grown Man” produced by Traxamillion that became an overnight hit in the streets and a smash hit on local radio stations, including world-renowned KMEL.
As the awareness of the group began to swiftly increase, the demand for show performances paralleled. Promoters throughout the west coast began to notice the elevated and charismatic performance style of The HoodStarz.  In 2006 the duo released Band-Aide & Scoot, and for the very first time in their career they proved to be easily recognizable.
Between the radio airplay, sold-out shows and consistent album sales, the group was encouraged to keep producing more music. “Scoot and I were both in two different groups when we first began, but once we met in high school and found it second nature to complete each others rhymes, we knew then we were on to something… and the people could feel it too,” says Band-Aide aka SolidSolid.
Just a year later in 2007, the two released a mixtape Bay Area All-Starz, providing yet another success story to their growing discography.  The mixtape reaffirmed their rap chemistry, as they captured larger audiences with their comedic ability to seize listeners while acquiring an entirely new fan base.
“As artists we’re avid entertainers that love the stage, but a lot of people don’t know we’re also actors – we had a few small movie rolls in addition to our self-directed music videos,” explains Scoot Dogg aka Blakk Boi.
Just this year The HoodStarz released yet another mixtape under popularDJ Fresh’s series Tonight Show, but  it is the anticipated date of October 5, 2010 that will morph and merge past and present, and align new fans with the release of Controversy.
“This is an album that fans will be still be listening to five years from now,” explains Band-Aide. “In this world of reality TV we live in, Scoot and I decided to provide fans a musical reality show with non-scripted adventures of disappointing times and celebrated hours in our daily life.
The HoodStarz are ready and set to turn another corner inside of the music industry as they present their latest musical, vivid, verbal picture of  what they pronounce as “Controversy.”

UNDERGROUNDGIRLSOFHIPHOP.COM LAUNCHES THE POWER IN PINK PROGRAM IN 2 INNER CITY SCHOOLS

LOS ANGELES, CA , October 5th, 2010 Recently Shylise Simpson started The Power In Pink Program in conjunction with the Children Youth and Family Collaborative which is Serving the Young Ladies in The Los Angeles Community. The Power In Pink program offers mentoring; soft skills training and career building. Power in Pink is in full forces at two Los Angeles, Ca Schools Crenshaw High School and Dorsey High.

This program is another way that undergroundgirlsofhiphop.com chooses to assist in advancing the lives of young women today; there is no doubt in owner Shylise Simpson’s mind that through this program young women will have a greater high school experience.

The goals of The Power In Pink Program are to build character, to empower young teenage girls to create their own opportunities for life success, and to become role models to their peers while contributing to the betterment of themselves. Through the aspects of entertainment young women will be introduced to career opportunities and exposed to other women in the industry whom faced adversity and transformed it into success.

Shylise Simpson would also like to ask that you clean out your closet for a wonderful cause. One of the components of our program is self esteem; she believes that being able to participate is one way to build self esteem. So she would like to send the girls to Homecoming in style this year; she ask that you donate dresses, shoes, any accessories you may have or sponsor a limo ride to the homecoming and back. The Power of Pink Program will have the girls make-up and hair done as well. I thank you in advance for your participation in this unique program.
