By Pete Allman

There's something special about dining with friends and meeting new ones. Just as interesting is the dining atmosphere, where friends can converse in a European setting. Such is the case with Vinoteque. This quaint bistro, located at 7469 Mel rose Ave is famous for their wine selection- over 2000 bottles of some of the best wines on the market.

Our culinary began with old friends and new friends.

Bill Jones, a world famous photography to the stars, and Ed Magik, the producer and creator of edmagiktv.com; joined me. Family owned and operated by Erin Dietch(and parents), Gil Ren and Ryan Hess, we were hungry for this new dining experience! We were greeted by Ryan Hess.

As the restaurants sommelier, Ryan has a wealth of knowledge on the topics of wine. On Tuesday's Vinoteque serves 3 wines and 3 appetizers for only $20.00 per person. The patron can also order an optional 3 course meal for an additional $40.00. This is a wonderful way to explore food and wine. The wine menu offers a bottle of wine for $30.00-which equals around $10.00 per glass. You can also try another wine by the glass. Liquid Sunday is a popular day offering 30% off of any bottle of wine. Plus there are no parking fees with a coupon from Vinoteques e-blast.

Vinoteque also has an outside patio for banquets and they grow organic herbs used in their daily preparation of food. It's a very divers-ed menu that the chef changes daily. Roasted Beets with sauvignon Blanc pear, and goat cheese. Pamela and brochette brioche crumbs is a delight. Other salads include Fried Green Tomatoes consisting of herb goat cheese, smoked tomato in vinaigrette.
Ah, how about Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus, with a panko fried poached egg with mushroom fondue and parmesan crisp Saba. For the meat and potato lovers, chicken caramelized with brussel sprouts and whipped potatoes with chick peas is just the right amount of food. Bill Jones had a Black Angus hamburger with fries and steak sauce. ''Best hamburger I've tasted ", were Bill's remarks. It should be, topped with pickles and caramelized onions; over dried tomatoes, arugula, and fries. In my travels I've always enjoyed fish.

That's why I ordered the Roasted Salmon on a bed of Wild Rice, with fresh vegetables Cooked to perfection without being too hard or soft for that matter. Angel hair and little neck clams with garlic sausage is a dish that's unique in itself. Ed Magik, including myself were totally satisfied. But my eyes are bigger than my stomach. So we all took advantage of the homemade desserts.
Check out the Pineapple Cappuccino with raspberry and your choice of sorbets with Malton Chocolate Cake and espresso ice cream made in Vinoteques kitchen. It's a winner! Celebrate life at this family establishment. Call [310] 860-6060 for reservations and tell them Pete Allman sent you. You can visit their website at www.vinotequela.com. The service, cuisine and ambiance are one you'll remember.C.S.N.s rating for Vinoteque is a 10.

Fashion: A Reflecting Rip In The Fabric Of Our Society (Angelino.us)

LOS ANGELES, CA October 21, 2009  - The trends in fashion today mirror a world in turmoil where injustice,  social inequality , environmental peril, and economic woes have engendered feelings of frustration and even hopelessness. As a  fashion clothing designer , Alex Angelino has long been cognizant of the relationship between the inner emotions and clothing choices. Putting together an outfit to wear involves a complex thought process of both the conscience and subconscious mind.  Color, texture, materials and style are primary elements, as are the fit and proportions of the garments.   In fact, cut and proportion are the two main factors when it comes to expressing oneself as funny, serious, victorious, indifferent, sexy, conservative, etc.

In pre-industrial societies, clothes often reflected occupation and/or religious affiliation, as well as standing in the  social structure , but with the advent of ready-made goods in the late Nineteenth Century, consumers began to have options.  As Diana Crane writes in her compelling book  Fashion and its Social Agenda,  as “the construction of personal identity outside the workplace became increasingly important,”   clothing became “a major tool” to do so, “offering a wide range of choices for the expression of lifestyles or sub-cultural identities” as well as of the individual's emotional state.
Crane continues by offering an analysis of the blue jean as signaling rebellion, adding that when blue jeans are worn with white T-shirt and  black leather jacket , the rebellious connotations are accentuated. When the punk movement emerged, such elements as metal studs took the theme further, as did safety pins struck into the ear and eyebrows. As Crane writes: “Abuse of the body and clothing expressed derisive and nihilistic attitudes toward establishment values.”
Indeed, generations express themselves with their looks, make-up, hairstyle and accessories, and since the Hippie movement in the Sixties, Jeans have clearly been a tool to express rebelliousness. Today's Hip Hop and teenager trends are no different, the younger generation adding a twist by wearing  jeans below the waist at a sagging level. The sloppy look that results has angered and worried parents and school officials, leading to the passing of ordinances in various cities around the country which ban the wearing of low-slung pants and fine those who ignore the code. This is a violation of civil and constitutional rights.  As a clothing designer, Alex believes these young people are not only making a fashion statement, they are clearly making a social and  political statement  also.
Certainly, something has gone terribly wrong with our justice system, Alex explains, which lately seems more like an ‘injustice system' where justice can be purchased.  Attorneys often
turn a blind eye or even facilitate pay-offs to judges.   Alex himself was a victim of such a scheme. His personal court battle has had a profound effect on his clothing choices and creativity.  Formerly, Alex was in suit and tie every day and he was designing formal clothing. But his bitter court experience, affecting him emotionally, shifted his attention away from textures and motifs that represent establishment values and more toward those that represent the anti-establishment. Alex eventually ceased wearing and designing suits altogether, instead wearing and designing jeans.  Alex now uses textures, motifs, and styles that comfort him and express his inner emotions.
Looking sloppy by wearing  sagging pants  satisfies the need to express an objection to what is happening today and to express doubt about the challenges which lie ahead personally and globally.   This not only pertains to clothing, but also to contemporary  art, music, dance, painting, etc.    In fact,  as our  social justice system  has declined in strength and moral backbone, society's contemporary art has grown more aggressive, artists voicing anger.
The  discussion of what to do about art and  fashion trends  should never focus on legislating codes and ordinances against the wearers or the artists, but rather on the  social conditions  which need to change in order for people to feel more hopeful and ultimately to express themselves differently.  Perhaps it is time for everyone to be responsible and to make our voices heard by expressing ideas based on knowledge and wisdom. Allen was born in Indiana and raised in Ft. Lauderdale , Fla.   His professional career began in 1988 as a solo act, playing keyboards and singing at upscale establishments in Ft. Lauderdale . Shortly afterwards, Allen was invited to perform his original song “Don't Mind Feelin’ Good” and “The Christmas Song” on several Miami television shows, which have seen regular airplay since 1990. Allen 's career has taken him all over the world performing in England, Germany, Norway and most of the Caribbean and throughout the states including the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. Eventually landing in Las Vegas, he performed as Elton John in “Legends in Concert.”

Michael John, a native of Las Vegas , Nev. , found out early that he had the voice of Billy Joel. He worked hard at perfecting his Billy Joel show and landed a gig playing in the world famous “Legends In Concert” portraying the famous piano man.  After “Legends,” John appeared on national television twice on the FOX network’s “Performing As…” talent show as Billy Joel receiving great reviews.

THE BLUEPRINT A Plan for Overcoming Life's Obstacles By Kirk Franklin

Kirk Franklin bio Photo

(New York, NY -- March 10, 2010) -- For some people, obstacles are minor bumps in the road on the way to success. For others, obstacles represent a major catastrophe of epic proportions threatening to disrupt any chance of success they may have otherwise had. But for seven-time GRAMMY® award winner Kirk Franklin, obstacles represent the challenges needed to propel you through life. In THE BLUEPRINT: A Plan for Living Above Life's Storms (Gotham Books; May 18, 2010; $25.00), Franklin reveals how he turned negative aspects from his own life-drugs, an absent father, teenage parenthood, poverty, etc.-into blessings by learning from them and moving forward. The beauty of THE BLUEPRINT is that Franklin by no way claims to be perfect or have insider knowledge of how to live your life wisely, but rather puts his setbacks and faults on full blast and suggests that oftentimes people, like Franklin at one point, go through life without a plan for success, simply living purposelessly, and without a person to show them the right way. THE BLUEPRINT fills the void of not knowing which way to turn and arms you the necessary tools to succeed.

By the time Franklin was just fifteen years old, he was a young father, without an encouraging figure in his life, and just another statistic on the street. As he explains in THE BLUEPRINT, "The street corner was my classroom. The 'hood was my Harvard." He went through life thinking he knew it all, and blamed the fact that he didn't have a role model for not being able to achieve his dreams, until the day he realized he had to turn his life around and become the man he needed to be on his own. That is what Franklin has outlined in THE BLUEPRINT-a chance for young people to become the person they need to be, no matter what the situation, or where they come from.

Today, Franklin is the proud father of four and devoted husband of fourteen years, as well as one of the biggest multiplatinum-selling gospel artists of all time. He credits his faith in God and a very close mentor he found later in his life for his success.

Whether you're down and out, misguided, or simply need a boost to push forward, THE BLUEPRINT is the essential guide to creating a better you, one day at a time. Success doesn't come easy, but it will come with a helping hand. Follow THE BLUEPRINT and start living the life you were always meant to live.

SOI 56 Sets Trend In Dining By Pete Allman

If you haven’t traveled to Bangkok and explored their cuisine, now
is the time. However, if you’re unable to do this, the next best thing
is to visit SOI 56 Bangkok. Located between Selma and Sunset, this
quaint and contemporary eatery is an experience you’ll be pleased with.
Amanda Kutee and Kary Noochia-or, are the owners who are exceptional
hosts and very attractive. It’s always nice to have guests when you’re
dining out. Joseph Collins, the CEO of Punch Television and his guest,
along with my guest, Valerie McConnell had some great conversations
while indulging in some of the finest Thai cuisine I’ve had in a long
time.

One of the reasons is the family legacy. Amanda and Kary’s
parents opened their first restaurant in Hollywood 35 years ago. So,
what’s not to like about SOI 56 Bangkok. Here’s what we shared- family
style. Starting with the appetizers, Chile Garden Shrimp, Tangy Sticky
Ribs, Spicy Roasted Green Peas, and Wanton Rapped Shrimp served with a
Mango Coconut dip. That in-it is a meal- and all for $5.00 to $10.00 an
appetizer. At times my eyes are bigger than my stomach. We’ll I
couldn’t resist the Piquanrimpt, pronounced ”Tan yo um koong”.This soup
consists of prawns, lemongrass and Thai vegetables. We also shared the
Coconut soup with glaze and squash. The soups can be ordered mild or
hot. With all these delectable dishes, there were two main dishes which
