Teena Marie (March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010) , an award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer known for her R&B performances is dead at the age of 54. Marie was found dead in her California home by her daughter after apparently dying in her sleep, according to her manager Mike Gardner.
Born Marie Christine Brockert, Teena Marie had two platinum albums at the height of her popularity in the 70s and 80s.
On Christmas day, Teena Marie quoted another music legend, Sarah Vaughn in one of her last tweets:
MsTeenaMarie: Sarah Vaughan "May You never grow old, and may I never die" (see below).
Teena Marie's biggest hit song was 'Lovergirl', a single that came out in 1984 and it took the number four spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (see video below).
In her music career, Teena Marie released 13 studio albums. She also went by the nickname of Lady Tee and she was actively performing up until her death. In 2010, she remained a headliner on the Las Vegas Strip, making regular appearances at the Las Vegas Hilton.
Back in 2009, Teena Marie and her daughter interviewed with ED MAGIK TV on the red carpet for a Roadstarr Motorsports mansion party.
Teena Marie is survived by her daughter, Alia Rose who sings under the name of Rose Le Beau.
