For his new album “Canciones Populares Contestatarias,Perrozompopo was inspired by Nicaragua to record and explore the folklore and write about the hardships of living in a poverty-stricken country. Perrozompopo says he couldn’t produce music without writing about Nicaragua. It’s nothing political,  it’s about sharing with his fans what it is like to live in a country that has been torn by poverty, corruption and civil war.’

Perrozompopodescribes himself as part of a new generation of artists in Central America pushing for social change through the arts. He draws inspiration from his country’s civil war, poverty, corruption, church and the overall human experience to enrich his music. “I write about the reality of where I live. “I explore the richness of our language. I combine poetry with music.”

Mejia has cultivated a solid career in his native Nicaragua, Central America and Europe, with the unique blend of traditional folklore, tropical, rock fusion and impressive lyrical content.

Perrozompopocomes from a family of musicians. Two of his uncles are well-known established musicians in Nicaragua, his older brother is multiple GRAMMY® award winning Luis Enrique, also known as “el príncipe de la salsa.

Mejia chose Perrozompopo, a colloquialism for "street smart" and a nickname for a species of gecko native to Nicaragua, as his artistic name as a way to identify with his country and his people.

Aretha Franklin Reveals Her Picks for Starring Roles in Film about Her Life and Career

http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs079/1101592288027/img/629.jpg
(New York, New York - September 10, 2010) -- Aretha Franklin today revealed her choices for starring roles in the highly anticipated bio-pic based on her New York Times best-selling autobiography, Aretha: From These Roots.

The all star lineup features Oscar award-winning actress Halle Berry in the role of a younger Aretha Franklin, and Oscar and Tony winning superstar Denzel Washington in the role of her father-Rev. C.L. Franklin, the legendary minister, national evangelist, pastor and civil rights leader.  Franklin selected Oscar-nominated Terrence Howard for the role of her life-long friend and music icon Smokey Robinson; Blair Underwood for the role of her brother and long-time manager Cecil Franklin; and Nia Long for the role of her sister, Erma Franklin.  She also chose award-winning gospel singers LaShun Pace and Karen Clark Sheard to take on the roles of members of the world-renowned gospel group, the Ward Singers, with Karen Clark Sheard in the role of Kitty Parham. The Ward Singers greatly influenced Ms. Franklin's life and career.

According to Franklin, these actors are enthusiastic about the project and have agreed to take on these roles, subject to further negotiation. During the summer, she had the opportunity to discuss the film with Denzel Washington when he was starring on Broadway in August Wilson's Fences. He was very interested in the role.  She also had a very positive response from her in-person conversations with Terrence Howard and others. Franklin reports that she will be reviewing the script next week, putting the film another step closer to production.

Opening to the public on Thursday, September 16, “Up from the Vault: 85 Years of Treasures from the Warner Bros. Photo Lab” will run through December 12. Admission is free.
The exhibition includes a broad range of photographs, some famous and many extremely rare or unseen – from glamour portraits to set reference stills, from ad art and publicity photos to behind-the-scenes shots and scene stills. New prints of images taken in black-and-white and color, and in nearly every photographic format, from early 4”x5” negatives to the latest high-resolution digital photos, will be on view.
“Up from the Vault” will feature some of the most iconic stars of the last nine decades, including Judy Garland, James Cagney, Joan Crawford, Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Marlon Brando, Natalie Wood, Vivien Leigh, Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, Keanu Reeves, Denzel Washington and Heath Ledger. Shots taken on various sets by film legend and aspiring photographer James Dean are also included.
Classic and recent films will be represented, such as “Casablanca,” “Rebel without a Cause,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” “Batman Begins,” “Little Caesar,” “Cool Hand Luke,” “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” “A Star Is Born,” “Mildred Pierce,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Sergeant York,” “Gypsy,” “The Maltese Falcon,” “The Searchers,” “All the President’s Men,” “The Matrix,” “The Exorcist,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Million Dollar Baby.”
The Warner Bros. Photo Lab originated in the early days of the studio, circa 1930, and remains the longest continuously operating studio photography department. Its purpose was, and still is, to process the unit photographers’ images into proofs and prints for publicity and advertising. Staffed by printmakers, archivists and digital designers, the Warner Bros. Photo Lab works with millions of original negatives, photographic prints and digital images owned and archived by Warner Bros. Studios, composing what is perhaps the most complete visual record of any studio’s film production and promotional activities that exists.
The exhibition is organized by the Academy in association with guest curators Greg Dyro and Leith Adams.
Also opening on September 16, in the Academy’s Fourth Floor Gallery, is “Ingmar Bergman: Truth and Lies.” The world premiere exhibition will delve into the career and personal life of the legendary Swedish director. Original scripts, notebooks, film schedules, sketches, posters, photographs and other paper materials will complement items such as set models and costumes. Film projections and specially created montages will allow the visitor to explore the full range of Bergman’s work, from his earliest films to his major international successes. Admission is free.
The Academy’s galleries are located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills and are open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and weekends, noon to 6 p.m. The galleries will be closed for the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend (November 25 through 28).

MYRON WILLIAMS TELLS THE WORLD HE IS ‘THANKFUL’

September 7, 2010 – Award winning producer and CEO of Flow Music & Entertainment Myron Williams is back with his sophomore CD, Thankful.  Scheduled for an October 5, 2010 release, the project is sure to please his fans with his signature style and songs of unwavering Worship & Praise.
For almost 2 years now, Williams has found himself in a hail storm of obstacles, and battles but in the midst of it all he remained the pillar of strength and dignity God called him to be and the result of his commitment is his new offering Thankful.
“The songs on this CD speak to the hearts of people that have endured and suffered, but never moved away from their faith.  I wanted to inspire others to stand when trusted friends forsake them, financial burdens overwhelm them, and their spiritual faith gets tested,” said Williams.
The Stellar Award Nominated Producer says “Thankful” is similar to the formula that has made the past projects Williams produced on the independent label successful.  Projects like Juanita Bynum’s A Piece of My Passion, Gospel Goes Classical and his own Made To Worship.   Taking the time he needed to produce a project that reflected his good and bad experiences over the past 16 months he found the testimony in each defeat and victory.  A warm collection of songs that take you to church, he knows how to transform a car, living room, or office into a place of worship.
Williams is known in the Gospel Music industry as the go to writer and producer when projects need warmth and intimacy.  Having worked with the likes of Marvin Sapp, T.D. Jakes, Juanita Bynum, Kim Burrell, Micah Stampley, and many others he has the ability to pull the best from those he works with, and ultimately does the same for himself.  Thankful will have people shouting and praising God all over the nation; proclaiming victory in all things.
